    What is Cirrhosis?

In simple terms, Cirrhosis is describe as scarring of the liver.

It involves the formation of scar tissue and destruction of the normal texture of the organ. This destruction blocks the flow of blood through the liver and prevents it from working as it should.

Liver damage cannot be reversed, and it does not always produce symptoms in its early stages.

Prevalence Rate: Approximately 0.15% of the population in USA has cirrhosis (1 in 679). Over 400,000 people in USA are suffering from cirrhosis.

Cirrhosis is the result of long-standing injury, it can be caused by many factors, the most common cause being excess alcohol consumption.

The destruction of the normal architecture and the loss of liver cells prevent the liver from functioning normally.
